Spring Equinox Celebration w/ Debra Bosna
108 Sun Salutations performed on the first day of spring, the Vernal Equinox, is most often done in large groups, and often as an “offering”, such as an offering of peace or unity. March 20th is the spring equinox! Astronomically this means that the length of the day and night are equal today. This may be the only natural phenomenon that unites the entire planet together. This special day brings with it special qualities that Chinese medicine recognize. The two basic forces that drive the world, the Yin and Yang, are today equal in their power and presence, and therefore bring harmony to this day. The spring equinox, therefore brings powers of growth and prosperity, which are the forces of the spring. Please join us for this special offering, a moving meditation that embraces the qualities of unity and peace!

Pranayama Workshop w/Debra Bosna
Breathing is life. It is one of our most vital functions. Pranayama is control of breath and brings more oxygen to the blood and to the brain. “Prana” is breath or vital energy in the body. On subtle levels prana represents the pranic energy responsible for life or life force, and “ayama” means control. This is used in yoga as a separate practice to help clear and cleanse the body and mind. Debra will guide us through some of the breathing exercises of Pranayama. Join us for this deeply moving and rewarding workshop.

Hormone Yoga Therapy w/ Katrin Elia
Living for many years with the troublesome menopausal symptoms is one thing, but having only the choice of using hormone replacement substances in order to feel better is another. Many women wonder if there are alternatives?
Hormone Yoga Therapy (HYT), invented by Dinah Rodrigues, is a holistic form of yoga that offers a natural alternative approach. Its focus is to reactivate the hormone production through a designed sequence of yoga postures (asana), specific breathing exercises (pranayama), Tibetan energy technique, and yoga nidra (visualization during meditation). Disagreeable Symptoms during menopause such as hot flashes, insomnia, depression, headache, tiredness, hair loss, migraine, emotional instability, and many others are indicators that the hormone level in a woman’s body is low and needs to be increased. Results show as well that HYT also helps in preventing osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases, and assists in infertility, pre-menopausal symptoms, stress, and panic symptoms.
“…to control the results I asked the participants (of a research group) to take a blood test of estradiol before beginning the practice (of HYT), which should be repeated every 4 months along with a questionnaire to evaluate the intensity of symptoms. The results were very good: 100 % of the students, in 3 to 4 month of practice, without medication, either had no more symptoms and if there were any symptoms, their intensity was nearly zero. (Ms. Rodrigues)
Yoga Instructor Katrin Elia (Yin and Vinyasa Yoga), trained and certified by Dinah Rodrigues in HYT, offers the first Hormone Yoga Therapy session on the East Coast at Stillpoint Yoga. In a 10 hour session you will learn a sequence of physical dynamic exercises in combination with an energetic breathing technique. Both techniques are designed to reactivate hormone production and, as a consequence, it will eliminate or at least significantly reduce the intensity of most menopausal symptoms. It is important to understand that positive results will come with a regular home practice (of 30 minutes), which will be discussed in the workshop.

Yoga Nidra w/ Trish Robayo
Most people sleep without resolving their tensions,
This is termed nidra.
Nidra means sleep, no matter what or why,
But yoga nidra means sleep after throwing off the burdens,
It is of a blissful, higher quality altogether.
When awareness is separate and distinct from the vrittis,
When waking, dream and deep sleep pass like clouds,
Yet awareness of atma remains
This is the experience of total relaxation.
Relaxation does not mean sleep.
Relaxation means to be blissfully happy,
It has no end.
I call bliss absolute relaxation;
Sleep is a different matter.
Sleep gives only mind and sense relaxation.
Bliss relaxes the atma, the inner self;
That is why, in tantra,
Yoga nidra is the doorway to Samadhi,
The blissful state of conscious awareness.
-SWAMI SATYANANDA SARASWATI
Come open your doors to bliss….. every first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM.
